Service and Leadership
My leadership and service grow from the same commitment that drives my research: advancing equity through collaboration, mentorship, and community engagement.
Professional and Community Leadership
I pair my academic work with leadership that strengthens both professional associations and community networks. Within the American Public Health Association (APHA), I serve as Treasurer-Elect of the Student Assembly and previously co-chaired the Action Grant Committee, supporting student-led public health projects nationwide. At Indiana University Bloomington, I represented graduate students on the 2030 Strategic Planning Commission and served as a Graduate Emissary for the University Graduate School.
Beyond academic service, I have led student and community organizations, including as President of the Bangladesh Student Association at IU and moderator of the Rotaract Club at East West University. I also founded Beyond Candid, a social media campaign against serial sexual violence in Bangladesh, and organized awareness programs on gender-based violence and community development.
Mentorship
Mentorship is central to my academic identity and an extension of my leadership philosophy. I have formally and informally mentored students at both undergraduate and graduate levels in the United States and Bangladesh. Since 2021, I have guided over 20 students, with 12 successfully securing full funding at U.S. universities for graduate study. At Indiana University, I mentor undergraduate researchers through the STEM Summer Institute, supporting them in developing equity-centered projects and building confidence as emerging scholars. I am also advising a doctoral student on research development, providing sustained mentorship for advanced research skills. These experiences affirm my belief in personalized guidance.
Service to the Profession
In addition to leadership, I have contributed to the profession through peer review and academic service. I have served as an abstract reviewer for the APHA Annual Meeting (Women’s Caucus) since 2021, and participated in faculty search and course development committees at both Indiana University and East West University. These experiences have deepened my ability to strengthen curricula, support hiring processes, and build inclusive academic programs.
